Quick Fix Diets – Discover Why They Cause More Weight Gain
But accelerated weight loss may mean more weight gain in the long run according to researchers. Quick fix diets and cleanses may do more harm than good. Quick-fad diets that we are all familiar with from the cabbage soup diet to the lemonade cleanse, probably lead to more weight gain and potential health concerns.
I am not a fan of the detox fads people are using to get slim fast. My experience with clients who have done a cleanse (against my advice) is they immediately gain the weight back. Cleanses boast detoxing your body of pollutants, hormones, the air you breath, weight loss and everything in between. I haven’t seen a long term change in the body of anyone who has completed a cleanse. In fact, I will throw it out there that cleanses can do more harm than good.
Consuming a diet of only cabbage or lemon water and maple syrup will absolutely cause you to lose weight (no brainer), because you’re probably consuming only about ¼ of the calories you were eating per day. However, these diets lack proper nutrition that the body needs to run properly and keep you healthy. Ultimately you are choosing the chance of dehydration and starvation over instantly looking skinny. Fair trade? I think not.
Crash diets can help you lose a large sum of weight in a short time, but it will only damage the metabolism over time. A regular exercise routine and healthy diet (consisting of food) will help you lose weight gradually which is the right way, and will help keep it off longer as well. You may want to think twice before giving up a stocked fridge for a liquid breakfast, lunch, and dinner to lose weight.
